Our Little Wonder

32 weeks

Posted by: carsonbaby on: June 17, 2009

Another sono on Monday, with good news :D   Baby Gage is already bigger than Shaye was when she was born at 36 weeks. The “guesstimation” is that he’s weighing in about 3lbs 11 oz and about 17 inches which is right around where he should be.  Sandra (the sono tech) also told us that Gage has a head full of hair. You couldn’t really see it until she pointed it out on the sono, but you could see everyonce in awhile his little tufts of hair..  It’s making me wonder what color it is. Mac & Dani both came out with full heads and they have red hair.. but Sarah, my sister, also came out with a full head and has blond hair. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.  I’m starting to get more and more antsy as the weeks pass. I was really worried around the 30 week mark because he would have been the same size Shaye was when she was born, but we’ve passed that and he is still growing and moving. So I guess he still has enough room.

My big concern now is making sure he stays in there until he’s done baking. And also the fact that here I am just 6 weeks away from him being here and we don’t have everything we need.. aaaah.. main thing is a carseat but I’m sure we’ll save up the money between now and then.  bleh I hate stressing.. Anyway, just thought I would drop a quick note for an update. I have a regular check up next Tuesday so I’ll let everyone know how that goes later.

Sono Yesterday

Posted by: carsonbaby on: May 6, 2009

Yesterday we went in for our sono update. The tech said that baby Gage looks good, he still has enough room to grow and is growing at the correct speed. He’s now around 2 lbs 1 oz. I don’t really have that much to update since it was just a sonogram, I’ll try and post again next week after my actual checkup.

24 Weeks

Posted by: carsonbaby on: April 19, 2009

Your pregnancy: 24 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

Your baby’s growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he’s almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he’ll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing “branches” of the respiratory “tree” as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

See what your baby looks like this week. (Or see what fraternal twins look like in the womb this week.)

Well, we’re getting pretty far into the pregnancy. The further along I get, the more worried I get. It’s probably just my overactive mind but I keep having bad feelings, and dreams, that Gage is going to come a lot sooner than Shaye. Like 10 weeks sooner (and that would be in just 2 weeks).  With Shaye, I had no idea there was a possibility of preterm labor but now that I know about it, it’s all I think about. I already feel like I’m going to pop at any second and that’s not good considering he only weighs a pound.  The good thing is though, we know about it now and will keep better eye on his progress. You can’t go my mesaurements of my belly like they tried to do last time. I remember going one time and Dr. Raja measured me and told me that baby should be around 6 lbs by now. What a surprise it was when she came out 3lbs lol.  We are scheduling sonograms every 4 weeks and trying to go easy on what I do around the house and at work.  When I was prego w/ Shaye, we lived in apartments so I was constanly carrying big loads of laundry down to the laundry mat, and I was also going to college so there were big treks across campus with a very heavy backpack, but of course we never thought anything about it. There was no worry.

They are already telling me I can’t exercise, which is ok by me most of the time (I am pretty lazy) but here lately anytime I take Shaye to the park, I walk around the playground until she’s done, but now they say I can’t even do that. I’m scared that I’ll eventually be put on bedrest, and I know I can’t do that either lol. I’m a wiggle-worm by nature and cannot be still for anything, let alone have to stay in bed or on a couch all day. Then there is the fact that we have dogs that have to taken care of and Shaye who has to go to school and Mac who is over 900 miles away from us. He tells me that he’ll come home if I get put on bedrest, but we just can’t do that. There isn’t really work down here where he can be here everynight and morning to take care of things. He could come work at Pizza Hut or Dairy Queen, or something, but that wouldn’t cover our expenses at all. It just wouldn’t be smart. Especially with the baby on the way.

I know I need to quit worrying about things so much, but I’m a worrier by nature too. I live by the belief that everything happens for a reason, so if Gage does decide to grace us with his presence earlier than expected, then it was meant to be. But here lately, I can’t help but think, that something is going to go wrong. That he’s going to come early and its going to be bad. I live my life believing that everything is the way it is because God wants it that way, but when it comes to the kiddos, sometimes I just can’t help but doubt it.

17 weeks

Your pregnancy: 17 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

Your baby’s skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she’s around 5 inches long from head to bottom. She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

16 weeks

Your pregnancy: 16 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he’s about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren’t recognizable yet. He’s even started growing toenails. And there’s a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

————————————————————————

I went to the doctor on Feb 17 and got a good report. Mac was able to go with me which I was so happy because he never got to go to any of my appointments when I was pregnant with Shaye. We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time and the doctor said it sounded nice and healthy. I am slowly gaining stomach and only gained 2 lbs (thank goodness).

I have another appt March 17 for a checkup and then the sonogram on March 25. We should have a nice big group going for the sonogram this time where as it was only Dani & I last time. Mac is hoping to come home for the appointment, and mom, who never got to come to any of my appts when I was pregnant with shaye either, is wanting to come for the sono. Dani has voiced her opinion that she doesn’t care if she is in school or not (or if her mom agrees or not) she WILL be there for this appt. Add in Shaye baby and we’ll have a good party :D I think most of us are hoping for a boy but Mac is the oddball and says he wants a girl because he wouldn’t know what to do with a boy.

13 weeks

Your pregnancy: 13 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

Fingerprints have formed on your baby’s tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you’re having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.

See what your baby looks like this week.

Note: Every baby develops a little differently — even in the womb. Our information is designed to give you a general idea of your baby’s development.

How your life’s changing:

This is the last week of your first trimester, and your risk of miscarriage is now much lower than earlier in pregnancy. Next week marks the beginning of your second trimester, a time of relative comfort for many women who see early pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue subside. More good news: Many couples also notice a distinct libido lift around this time. Birth is still months away, but your breasts may have already started making colostrum, the nutrient-rich fluid that feeds your baby for the first few days after birth, before your milk starts to flow.

12 Weeks

I love babycenter. When I was pregnant with Shaye I was always logged on there, learning all the different things happening that week or month. So of course, I’m back again :D I know the further along the pregnancy gets, the less accurate the site gets about the size and weight of my baby but still, its fun to read. Anyway, I’m going to try and post everyweek what babycenter says about that week. just fun little facts :D

Your pregnancy: 12 weeks

How your baby’s growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby’s fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won’t be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.

Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby’s brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Sono Pics

Posted by: carsonbaby on: January 21, 2009

Very hard to get a clear picture of this little one. The baby was moving as much as possible and almost all the pics came out blurry. The baby is about 1.5 inches long or the size of a fig (according to baby center) This is what they have to say about the 11th week:

How your baby’s growing:
Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.

She’s already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won’t feel your baby’s acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

Kind of Confused

Posted by: carsonbaby on: January 20, 2009

Well the Doctor is just a confusing man. At first he confused me and my mom about the whole big pouch/little pouch thing. Now he is acting like its no problem.. I have no idea..

Anyway, I am carrying the baby on the left side. I am 11 weeks and 2 days. And the baby is 4.23 cm. He didn’t get any good pictures because the baby was so small and wouldn’t stop moving but it was fun getting to see it. The whole time it looked like the baby was dancing.. wouldn’t stay still for anything :D

Tomorrow when I get to the office I’ll scan in the sonos anyway even though its a little hard to make out the picture. And also when I have more time than I do right now, I’ll write a longer post on everything.

ta-ta for now :D

Update on Baby C

Posted by: carsonbaby on: January 6, 2009

Well, apparently I was misdiagnosed when I had Shaye. I specifically remember Dr. Raja saying I had a bicornuate uterus (or in other words a heart shaped uterus). I mean, how would we come up with that word? We had no idea there was a such thing as uterine abnormalities until after I had my emergency c-section. Anyway, he wrote in my file that I actually have a septate uterus (which means there is a wall dividing my uterus in two). I remember a few years ago when I was doing research on the different abnormalities, I came across the septate uterus and I convinced myself that was what I actually had. Mac, of course, had to argue with me and said no, the dr said this, so this is what you have lol.. Don’t you know you should always trust women, because we are always right? hehe

What’s different with the septate uterus is I think its more dangerous. The septum completely divides my uterus in two, and apparently one side is bigger than the other. We are praying that I am carrying the baby on the big side (whichever that is) because it is, of course, very dangerous to try and carry the baby on the other. The thing I’m worried about though, is if there is a big side and a little side, I hope the right side, where I was carrying Shaye isn’t the larger because that child was so squished by 8 months, she had no where to go. She nearly ruptured my uterus and that’s crazy considering she was only 3 lbs..

Anyway, Dr. Raja is guesing I am around 9 weeks now..  I still think I’m further along but we’ll find out on the 20th. I have an appointment for an sono to figure out how far along I am, to see what side I’m carrying and also to see how thick my uterine wall is.  I hope everything turns out ok because I’m afraid that I’m going to have to go on bedrest and that kills me because I HATE missing work. I know, I know, priorities Steph!

I’ll update again after my appointment.
